Sidney Vollmer

Sidney Vollmer (1983) is a writer and a director. His debut novel ‘Everything smells like chocolate‘ received a lot of attention and not only because of its content, but also because of its cleverly designed iPad app.

Where the Dutch publishing scene is slowly adjusting itself to the electronic age, Sidney decided to publish his debut novel as an iPad app. The app is more than just a gadget. Sidney started from scratch and redefined how people will read and interact with the author and other readers in the future. He won a Dutch Golden Spinaward for the app and in 2012 the app was nominated for the Eurobest awards.

Sidney has a masters in Filmstudies from Utrecht University and studied briefly at the Dutch filmacademy. He directed theatre, three short films and runs his own filmcompany, working as a writer-producer. He also works as a director at BNNZ, an Amsterdam based creative production house.

In 2006 Sidney wrote and directed Dood Spoor, a short film that was selected for various Dutch Filmfestivals. In 2008, his second short film ADAM was again selected for various filmfestivals and nominated for an NBC Universal Shocking Short award.
