Sander Veenhof
Sander Veenhof is an artist and developer who has been active for decades at the intersection of technology and creativity. As an AI Program Maker at VPRO Medialab, he focuses on hands-on experiments with artificial intelligence and its impact on media, art, and everyday life.
In his work, Sander continuously pushes the boundaries of digital interaction—from augmented reality to live AI cameras at events such as Lowlands. Passive observation is not his style—his way of thinking about the future is practical and exploratory.
With a background in IT and an education at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, he translates his curiosity into concrete experiments, often using himself as the test subject. In recent years, this has resulted in a wide range of projects within AR, XR, and AI. Both successes and failures are an essential part of his story. By also sharing friction and uncertainty, he opens up the conversation about the choices we face as a society and as individuals in a rapidly changing technological landscape.
At VPRO Medialab, Sander explores how AI can be used in content creation, as well as what it means when media expands into new forms—such as a broadcaster that transmits via an AI bot. His work revolves around one central question: how do we relate in our daily lives to increasingly intelligent technology?
As a speaker, Sander tailors his story to the context of his audience. He gives lectures and workshops in which he combines insights with live experiments. In addition, he developed a new form of reporting: as a “vibecoding reporter,” he translates the essence of a session directly into an AI-generated, interactive experience.
His presentations are refreshing, thought-provoking, and designed to spark reflection—especially in a time when AI increasingly seems to create a uniform perspective. Sander shows that there is always room for wonder, experimentation, and a personal point of view.
