Sidney Vollmer
Sidney Vollmer (1983) is writer and creative strategist, both in the commercial environment as the artistic environment. He graduated as a media scientist with a minor in philosophy. He is a freelance creative at international offices, he started the podcast project digitalisme.nl and published his third book ON/OFF: Op zoek naar balans in digitale tijden in April 2017.
His first novel ‘Everything smells like chocolate‘ received a lot of national and international media attention. Not just because of its literary merits but also because of its cleverly designed, innovative iPad app. Sidney redefined how people read and interact with both the author and the story. He won a Golden Spinaward, a Eurobest award and various literary awards. The novel was republished summer 2014.
In 2016 he published a Twitterdiary called Atlasvlinders. The first counter-movement against digial violence. ON/OFF (2017), was an extension of the counter-movement: a collection of personal essays about digital technology and ethics that contains 24 principals for more civil rights in digital era’s. The book turned out to be visionary; recent developments in Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, smartphones, games and social media are reviewed in an ironic but also thorough way.
Since he published On/OFF Sidney talks about innovation, creativity and digital culture in a way that’s not just for geeks, but also for ordinary people. His talks are humorous, inspiring and thought-provoking. He understands digital media technology, how it changes society and what we have to do to create better technology. Introducing an increased focus on ethics in tech companies, improved governmental regulation, regaining trust amongst individuals.
